If you need a break, let me know. We can do something else for a while. We'll start with the letter A.
[He opens his book and lays it on the desk, pointing to the letter.]
This one is the capital letter, or the uppercase. It goes at the beginning of a sentence, or at the start of a name. This one is the lowercase letter...
[He leans in as he explains, before finally taking the pen and drawing a very neat A on the paper. Then beside it, a lowercase A.]
[This is already terribly intimidating. But... Paris is going to do his best, especially since Connor went and bought these books and everything.
He listens and watches attentively, even though Connor leaning in is a little bit more distracting than he would like to admit. He fumbles with the pen a little, trying to figure out how to get a grip on it before painstakingly copying what Connor did. It looks nowhere near as neat.]
[The way Connor tells him to hold it feels vaguely uncomfortable and entirely new, but... Paris will try. He does it again. ...He feels like this is worse, honestly. (It doesn't, but it doesn't look much better.)]
...I don't think I'm doing very well.
[He should probably not be this disheartened before they've even really started.]
[Paris will keep trying, just repeating them over and over again. There is... gradual improvement at least. Mostly in the upper case, curves are hard...]
[Connor nods as he notes the improvement, leaving briefly to go get Paris a glass of water. He just assumes he must be thirsty. Humans get thirsty often, right?]
You're doing well. We'll stop at E, I think. I don't want to give you too many letters to practice at once.
[Because he absolutely expects Paris to practice at home.]
[Paris nods, holding out his hand for the feed. He sprinkles the feed over the top of the bowl, and he smiles a little as he watches the fish dart up, snatching at the food. ...It does make him feel a bit better.
He looks around the room again, trying to think of... well, anything to distract himself.] I like your room. [It might not be very personalized, but... right now Paris's is just overly gaudy and it makes him uncomfortable.]
...Maybe I could paint the walls blue. And I'd like to add photos of people I like.
[Which seems like an odd thing to want, but Connor wants the reminders that he has friends now. He glances at the jewellery box at the side of his bed, which is full of pretty rings and the pebble he found on the ocean floor with Paris.]
I'd like to buy more jewellery, too.
[He doesn't wear most of it, he just likes to admire it.]
Mm. They might. I'm sure you could find something...
[Paris moves to sit on the bed; it's comfortable, but since Connor doesn't need to sleep it probably doesn't matter. He will gently pat the pillow though, smiling.] These are all so soft here...
[He wouldn't know, he's too tall for the bed. He tried laying on it once but not only did he not fit, he got bored. It's not like he was going to sleep, after all. He sits beside Paris though, since there's enough room for that. He idly stacks two of the pillows on top of each other.]
I need a bigger bed, but I'm not in a hurry to get one.
[Connor hums to himself, before getting on his knees on the floor and dragging the pillows down with him. Even after they're all on the floor, he still wouldn't fit on them.]
[He leaves for a moment to go to Hank's room, pulling the pillows off the bed there. He can always return them. Then he comes back and spreads them out on the floor, where they finally cover enough surface for him to be able to lay on them.]
I don't think Hank would like me using his pillows, but this would work, I guess.
[He lays on the pillows, but they separate under his weight and he ends up with his shoulders and hips on the floor and the rest of him on pillows, which would be very uncomfortable if he were human.]

Now you try.

[He's going to be encouraging, even if it looks like a spider died on the page. Paris isn't an android with built in fonts, after all.]
Try holding the pen like this, though-
[He takes Paris' hand and moves his fingers so he's holding the pen better.]
Now try.

[Well, kind of.]
You don't need to be perfect first try. Just keep trying, and you'll get better at it.

He murmurs a quiet thank you as he takes the water, taking a bit of a drink in part to give his hand a rest.] ...How many is that?
[He has zero knowledge base ok.]

[Connor can tell Paris is becoming stressed, though.]
Maybe we should take a break. You're doing well, don't worry.

[He's going to apologize anyway. He's pretty sure he's just wasting Connor's time. But also.... a break sounds good.]

[He gestures to the betta fish.]
Here, I find watching Sparky is very relaxing. Do you want to feed him?
[He gets the fish flakes, takes out a tiny pinch, and gestures for Paris to hold out his hand.]
Sprinkle these in there. He'll enjoy it.

[Blue is a good color. Paris looks over at the little box, smiling.]
...If you don't want to wear them... you could find something nice to show them off in, maybe?
no subject
[He looks thoughtful.]
Maybe there's something at a stall. They usually have the jewellery presented nicely.

Hmm. I don't think this is very comfortable.
