[Connor can actually walk again now, at least when he's dry. He's figured out that his transformation before was because of the full moons, and he's not looking forward to the next time it happens but at least he knows what causes it now. He'll be ready.
For now, he's in the sea. He's showing some scaling on his arms now, the same colour as his tail. He's sure there's nobody around, so he's humming gently to himself. He finds that he's been feeling more inclined to hum and sing along to things recently. He's lying on his back on the surface of the water, eyes closed, and his voice carries to the edge of the water. He doesn't realise he's actually pulling someone in.]
[The sound starts as a whisper, teasing at the edge of her thoughts. Justine is familiar with such voices but these aren't the cruel dark echoes she hears most days. No. This sound is sweet with promise and delight. The sound builds into a hypnotic song as her fingers slow to a stop.
She'd been at the market with a basket looped under her arm. She's already purchased some vegetables and had been looking to purchase fish when she first heard Connor's song.]
What is that? [No one answers her because she's walking towards the water before they can. Justine is clad in worn comfortable leather and a light blue corset wrapping around her thin waist. Her hair is tied up, lifted off the back of her neck, with a single forest green ribbon. Black curls frame her features and as the wind tugs at her hair it looks as if the silky black strands might fall loose from their tie.
The song grows louder and Justine feels it wrapping around her in it's enticing warmth. She drops her basket near the edge of the water before stepping into a shallow pool. The cold slides through her boots and shocks her senses, Justine inhales a sharp breath but she continues forward anyway.]
[It's just a tune he'd heard recently, and committed to memory because he commits everything to memory- but it's a pretty song, soft and slow. It helps that, like any android, he sounds good when he sings.
Unaware that he's luring Justine deeper into the water, he keeps on humming. His tail flicks slightly in time with the song, as he remembers the beat that had been behind it when he'd first heard it. He kind of wishes he had an instrument of some kind. No doubt he could pick it up easily.]
[She walks steadily into the water as Connors song wraps itself around her slender frame. The waves crash and curl against her waste, threatening to pull her under the waters surface. Her heart thunders in her chest as the water raises higher but she doesn't stop.]
Connor?
[She recognizes him a moment before her boot slips on the edge of a rock, sending her into the cool ocean. Justine manages a brief shout of surprise and then silence.
She moves her arms and legs but its not enough to break the surface of the water.]
[Justine coughs and reaches for Connor as he pulls her towards the surface of the water. Her arms wrap around his neck and she pulls herself close while gently pushing water and wet hair out of her eyes.]
Connor? [She gasps softly and focuses on controlling the rampant thunder of her heartbeat.] I- I don't know. [Justine presses her face against the curve of his neck, inhaling the scent of skin and salt water.]
I heard something. A song? Then I was here.
[Her voice is tense and not at all calm but she's trying her best to not freak out.]
[Justine is perfectly content clinging to him as he handles the arduous task of fighting off the ocean waves to get them back towards the shore. Her basket is safe but her clothes are soaked through.]
How is it your fault?
[She doesn't know what the Marrow can do but it's easy enough to fit the pieces together.]
Yes, I was. I didn't realise my voice would carry so far. I wasn't trying to lure anyone in.
[He takes her back to the shore, and lets go of her when his tail won't allow him to go any shallower without having to drag himself along. Which he does once Justine is free of the water, pulling himself onto the dry sand.]
Your clothes are soaked. We should get you some more.
[He looks down at his tail.]
I'll dry out quickly enough. Then I can come with you.
[Her feet find the sand below her a few steps before Connor has to worry about dragging his tail against the sandy beach. Justine winces, it probably isn't comfortable flopping and then dragging himself on the sand like that.]
I would but I don't have much money.
[Her fingers dig into her corset to loosen its hold on her chest. It's made out of fabric instead of leather so it won't shrink but her pants pose to be an issue.] I need to get these off. [Leather isn't supposed to get wet because it tightens. Luckily, Justine doesn't mind walking home in her underwear.
It won't be a first for her.]
Is that how your tail works? [She asks as she slowly wiggles herself out of her leather pants. Everything else will be fine drying on her. She should have worn a skirt today.]
[Justine's lips lift in a little smirk as she looks up at Connor.] Oh? I'm almost disappointed. [Her voice is just a little teasing as she rolls up her pants and boots, positioning them in her basket of vegetables.]
You've seen me without pants three times now. I only got to see you once.
[It's been a weird day and teasing makes Justine feel a little bit better.]
[He gets that he's being teased, though. He smiles back.]
I guess I'm just lucky.
[His tail starts to darken as it dries, until it's completely black. Then it splits, and he's back to sitting in slightly damp jeans. No shoes or shirt, though. He gets to his feet, and stumbles a little. The transition from tail to legs is always a little strange.]
[Her bare feet sink into the sand as Justine steps forward, placing a hand on Connors shoulder before he could fall. She doesn't have the strength to help him but it's an instant involuntary reaction that completely baffles her. She doesn't... usually do things like that.]
Next time you can just ask. [She smiles and lets her gaze linger over his chest before nodding towards her basket.]
When you're ready, do you think you can carry that for me?
[Connor appreciates the gesture, at least. He isn't completely unaware of the look Justine just gave him either, and he finds he's kind of pleased with it.]
Of course.
[He moves to pick up the basket, pushing his hair back with his free hand- though of course, that one strand falls down as usual.]
Where are we going?
[His offer to buy her more pants is still on the table, but he'll take her home if she wants to go there instead, too.]
[Justine tugs at her hair as Connor orients himself and reaches for her basket. She pulls at the tie, letting the silky midnight strands tumble over her shoulders. Water drips down her pale shoulders as she ties the ribbon around her wrist to keep it safe.]
There. [She runs her fingers through her hair and hopes that it dries quickly.]
I think pants or a skirt might be helpful but I need to get my vegetables home too. [She's out of room in her basket thanks to the pants and shoes to by anything else without carrying it on its own.] I was also going to pick up fish.
[She considers the list of things she is hoping to get finished this morning and decides.] Okay. Let's see if we can find me something to wear and then quickly pick up fish before heading back. [That way she doesn't have to go back out later and she can also show Connor her home.]
[It's one of many domestic tasks that Justine has practiced and perfected.] Cooking is calming in a way. [She glances up at Connor, her brow furrowing curiously.]
I can teach you. If you'd like. Maybe we can find Hank's favorite dish?
[Justine assumes this is someone important and she gets the feeling that Connor isn't used to messing up.] I think you'll pick it up quickly. You always seem too. [She smiles as they walk from the shore to the streets. Justine pauses to slip her bare feet into her boots but she doesn't lace them up. She just doesn't want to accidently step on broken glass.
She earns a few stares and if not for Connor, a few people looked as if they might proposition her but Justine ignores them all.]
I think the closest clothing store is down this way. [Hopefully they have shoes too. Wet feet is how you get a cold.]
[He does walk a little closer to her as they head down the street, eyes on anyone who might take the opportunity to do something inappropriate. He would absolutely throw down in the middle of the street if he had to.]
He seems to like burgers a lot. I was hoping to find him something a little healthier, though.
Burgers can be healthy. I think condiments and anything that counts as fast food is the only thing that make them unhealthy. [And bread but there is nothing inherently unhealthy about a hamburger.] But he likes beef? I think we can find plenty of things that you can make him.
[She steps closer to his side when it seems as if someone might be walking a little too close for comfort. Her hips and side mold against Connor's side as the shop she had in mind rises into view.]
[Connor nods, taking the information in. As Justine steps closer, he glances over at the person walking closer than necessary and automatically puts his arm around her waist protectively.]
I plan on buying a recipe book, but having the experience will be helpful too.
[He steps into the shop with her, letting go of her waist and following her to look at the clothes.]
[The touch of his palm sends a little thrill of heat through Justine's frame causing her long slender legs to prickle with goosebumps.]
Recipes help but some technics should be practiced. [Such as poaching, grilling, oven frying... etc.
Justine steps into the store and the clerk instantly intercepts her, waving a hand as if to ask her to leave. The woman looks to have had assumed that Justine is a whore of some kind and such attire is not welcome in her store.
She gently assures the woman that she's simply in need of a skirt and a pair of shoes to replace the articles of clothing that had gotten wet. The sales clerk flushed and Justine was swept into a changing room before more could be said.
When she steps out, her hair is a little more dry and curling freely around her exposed shoulders. She has a new white blouse decorated with pink rose buds gently hugging her torso, taking the place of her corset. It's very apparent that she isn't wearing a bra but Justine looks to be comfortable without one. Light purple fabric swirls around her hips while a few thin pieces of pink and white fabric are tied around her waist. She is wearing a pair of brown sandals that look to be simple but functional.]
What do you think?
[Justine asks as she places her shoes, corset and soaked blouse back in the basket.]
[Connor buys a shirt while Justine is inside the changing room, and another pair of shoes. He's buttoning it up when she comes out, and he gives her a small smile.]
You look nice.
[The outfit is pretty on her. Then again, pretty much everything is nice on her. Connor picks up the basket again and heads to the counter to pay for their things, and then starts to head out of the shop.]
[Justine follows behind him, offering a soft thank you to the store clerk before exiting the store. Her steps are light and nearly silent without her usual heels clicking against the stone streets.]
