Mm. It's… I like being able to hold something I've made.
[She nods, picking up pen and paper.]
Honestly… I miss being able to use the crystal-based techniques from home. But it's important to keep the knowledge of the ordinary techniques, as well.
So! To start with, you'll want a pattern- and the material, of course. And with your sizes…. [She hums, stepping aside to rummage through for the materials, pins and scissors.]. I tend to cut a little extra, just in case. It can always be hemmed up. So- let's start with the pieces for the front and back- that uses this part of the pattern, cut this way…
[Connor listens intently, watches as Sapphire works. When she's finished he seems pleased, both with the fact that he's learned something and that he has something new to wear now, too.]
You're good at this...
[He takes the sleeve in one hand, inspects the stitching.]
I'm glad to hear that! Let me know if it needs patching up at all, aye?
[It's not quite the same as a manufactured one, but it looks as though it should hold up well.]
Mm- I only took up formal training some years ago, but my family taught me to mend my clothes when I was young. I think it was probably to try to discourage me from tearing them up at first.
[He knows nothing about children, honestly. He tugs on the new shirt, and looks it over. He would say it's comfortable, he can move around in it easily, and it looks nice... so to him, it's perfect.]
Some like to more than others. I think most children like to imagine they're protecting the others, and play that out. …And sometimes you think someone's had more than their fair share of that.
[It seems strange to her, given she knew her family. But- she can do her best to help him learn.]
They do seem fairly popular here. [They're becoming maybe a little more popular? But still uncommon, as she recalls…] Oh, that's useful. The ones I tried seemed a little stiff…
There's a pair of pants intended as a set for the shirt- they are, ah. Somewhat baggy, though.
[He seems more curious to see them than put off, at least.]
Too baggy and it might impede my movement if I do need to fight. Which... I don't suppose I expect to need to do here, but I'd rather be prepared anyway. Then again... I could always wear them around the house.
A few ilms- inches- below the knee. Something like this…
[She stretches down to indicate, and then hums.]
They should be suitable for fighting in- and they can always be altered! But having some options just in case never hurt. [That gets a nod.] They could be just for relaxing, in that case!
no subject
[She nods, reaching for her measuring tape.]
If you could stretch your arms out, then? And I'll take your measurements.
no subject
[It's not like android uniforms were ever made to be comfortable, after all. He does as he's told, stretching his arms out and smiling slightly.]
Like this?
no subject
Perfect! Tell me if it's uncomfortable at all.
[She gets to measuring, muttering the numbers to herself, to keep until she can put them down.]
So- no objections to cotton, I take it?
no subject
No, cotton is nice.
[He's admittedly just excited for new clothes, so what they're made out of doesn't bother him much.]
Do you have a particular style you're going with?
no subject
no subject
[He relaxes once she's done taking his numbers, fiddling with his sleeve.]
It sounds exciting.
[He'd like to be able to make that kind of clothing, too... so he looks expectantly up at her.]
If I watch you work, I should pick it up quite quickly. That said, if you wouldn't mind talking me through it, that would be nice.
no subject

Have you been doing this for a while?
no subject
[It's not quite the same as a manufactured one, but it looks as though it should hold up well.]
Mm- I only took up formal training some years ago, but my family taught me to mend my clothes when I was young. I think it was probably to try to discourage me from tearing them up at first.
no subject
How would you tear them up?
[He's only ever torn his own clothes when he's, well, been shot.]
no subject
Oh, well- ordinary kid things. I'd snag them on branches, or rocks, or worry holes into them, or get into fights…
[She shrugs.]
We were a pretty rambunctious lot.

[He knows nothing about children, honestly. He tugs on the new shirt, and looks it over. He would say it's comfortable, he can move around in it easily, and it looks nice... so to him, it's perfect.]

How do the shoulders feel?
no subject
They feel good... I can move in this quite easily.
[He moves his arms around as if to demonstrate.]
I like it.
no subject
[She brightens, leaning in to take a quick look to reassure herself.]
I worry about that, sometimes- if it's not right around the arms, trying to do things feels awful. In sewing, and fighting…
Anyhow! What about pants?
no subject
[Connor can fight in them just fine.]
What would you suggest, though?
no subject
There's a pair of pants intended as a set for the shirt- they are, ah. Somewhat baggy, though.

[He gives Sapphire a slight smirk.]
How would you like to be my sparring partner? We can put these new clothes to the test.
no subject
I'd like that. The proof is in the pudding, after all! What sort of sparring are you thinking of?
no subject
[Connor feels comfortable either way.]
no subject
[It might be tough fighting him, but she imagines that's probably for the best.]
Does that mean you're practiced in hand to hand, then?
