Disposition: Though charismatic enough to negotiate through a hostage situation as well as extract confessions from deviants, Connor can also come across as a little socially awkward with regard to actual humans. He will often attempt small talk, but he's not very good at it. His relative newness to the world (he's 3 months old) means some humans sayings can go over his head, and he can take things quite literally. He's also very focused, and can become obsessed with completing his mission, whatever that may be, with little regard to his own safety. Examples include sacrificing himself to save a hostage, running through speeding traffic to chase a suspect, and even jumping onto a moving train whilst chasing after a deviant.
Connor slowly becomes a more sympathetic character over the course of the game, responding in more human ways to situations. He becomes less stiff and more animated in the way he moves and speaks, and starts showing more emotion. He'll start questioning his superiors more, asking for answers that have no bearings on the investigation. He possesses a desire to be free from the slavery androids are subjected to, as proven when he breaks free of his programming and becomes a deviant himself, choosing to no longer follow orders. He wants to know who he really is, believing he can be more than what he was programmed to be ("You're lost. You're looking for something. You're looking for yourself.")
He's shown to have no qualms about killing if he has to, even after becoming more human. If he believes it's absolutely necessary, he'll sacrifice a few lives. However, he's hesitant to kill when he believes there's no point, or that he'd be taking an innocent life. Notably, he refuses to kill the unarmed Traci androids outside the Eden Club, and he also refuses to kill the defenceless Chloe android kneeling before him at Kamski's place, stating that he just "saw her eyes, and couldn't." However, he will kill the armed human guards at Cyberlife Tower, and he will kill the soldiers that arrive at Jericho to exterminate the deviants hiding there.
He's also shown to have a negative response to failure, becoming distressed and confused if he fails because he's "not programmed to do that". He'll often resort to self-blame ("I should have been faster", "I should have anticipated that.") However, if it comes between saving an innocent life and completing his mission, he'll choose to save the life first, even if that also ends with him being unhappy with his failure (saving Hank over chasing the deviant, sparing Chloe over gaining intel.)
He carries himself well, if perhaps a little stiffly still, and speaks clearly and calmly for the most part- though he has a tendency to speak a little quickly when he gets frustrated or excited about something. He's often seen fixing his attire to keep himself looking neat, and obviously cares about how he presents himself- he usually has the option to check himself out in nearby mirrors. He's polite at first to everyone for the most part, even those who are openly hostile towards him. This politeness will eventually wear down if pushed long enough however, and Connor can become sarcastic and somewhat bitter instead.
For those who are kind to him he's kind back, capable of forming close friendships with people who treat him well. He'll try his best to be helpful and give advice where he can, though he can pry a little too deeply without meaning to. His idea of "help" may not always be what the person in question particularly wants, either- for example, forcibly sobering up a drunk Hank by giving him a cold shower, or pointing out the calories in a meal and suggesting something else. His curious nature means he asks a lot of questions, often a little personal, and he's driven to investigate things that catch his attention thoroughly.
- Observant
- Friendly
- Charismatic
- Curious
Under pressure: Connor, being new to the world in general and able to process information quicker than any human could, defaults to caution or curiosity before fear. Magic may not exist in Detroit, but if shown hard evidence of it existing in the game setting, he would be baffled initially but open to the idea as long as it could be proven. Turning into a mythical creature or finding his powers would be alarming at first, it's true, but he would be mostly driven by the desire for more information rather than fear or panic. What are the limits of his powers? What else can he do? Why are people given different abilities and gemstones? The same way he'd be interested in exploring his surroundings back home, he'd be interested in exploring the world around him here, too. He'd also be interested in making friends and getting to know the people, especially his fellow Gembonds, considering they also come from very different worlds and could be a source of all kinds of information.
Even before that, his realisation that he's in an entirely different world would mostly just raise questions. He'd want to go home, of course. He has things to take care of. But the knowledge that arriving to another world is even possible will spark a need for answers. Connor isn't really prone to reacting to new information, however much there is, with panic. New things intrigue him; he was designed to be that way. The only thing likely to make him panic a little is thinking shutdown is inevitable, because he fears death.
Of course, Connor isn't immune to cracking under pressure. He'd try to hide it, because he likes to remain in control of himself, but he'd potentially get irritable and more fidgety than usual. He's the type to blame himself for perceived failures, and can resort to sulking and self-loathing if given the chance. He's a social person, so when he shuts himself away from everyone else, it's obvious something is wrong. In a dire situation where he needs to act, though, he's more focused on what needs to be done than his own feelings on the matter.
Condition upon arrival: In full working condition, but with a bullet wound to his upper left shoulder. Since he doesn't feel pain, and it didn't hit anything vital, he doesn't really care much about it.
Abilities: As an RK800 prototype, made to assist police, Connor comes with several unique and not-so-unique abilities.
UNIQUE
- His tongue works to check samples in real time, analysing anything it comes into contact with (mostly blood). It can then tell Connor things like how fresh the blood is, who it belongs to, and any drugs they had in their system the time the blood was spilled, etc.
- Reconstruction of a scene. Connor can use clues gathered at a scene to determine what exactly happened and reconstruct the scene in his head. This can sometimes lead to more information being uncovered.
- Memory probing. Connor can access the memory files of an android by touch, in order to access the information he needs. However, he doesn't like doing this after a nasty incident where he felt another android die whilst connected to him.
- Combat prowess. While all androids can fight in some way, Connor was programmed to be able to take down an opponent with ease if needed- he's stronger than he looks, but he mostly relies on speed and quick reflexes to outmanoeuvre his foe. He can also "preconstruct" the next most probable move in a fight, meaning he can tell what his opponent is going to do based on body language and movement.
GENERAL
- Doesn't feel pain, doesn't need to eat or sleep, doesn't need to breathe (though he simulates it).
- Other androids have been cited as knowing hundreds of languages. It can be assumed Connor is the same, especially in his line of work.
- Voice mimicry. Connor can sample a voice and change his own to match the sample perfectly.
- The ability to speak to other androids telepathically.
Inventory: A quarter coin, and a pistol.
Gembond: Emerald
Gem Location: In the center of his chest, above his thirium pump regulator
